Armstrong Wins Scotia Bank King Of The Hill
Neil Armstrong and co-driver Barry Ward produced a stunning final run to win the Scotiabank King of The HIll sprint event in Barbados on Sunday, May 26, 2013. Driving the Suzuki SX4 WRC, Armstrong topped the leader board of the final shakedown before the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport International - Sol Rally Barbados. In front of thousands of motor sport fans who lined the 2.5 kilometre Luke Hill course in the north of the island, Armstrong trailed last year’s Sol Rally Barbados champion Paul Bird and multiple winner Roger Skeete going into the final run but produced a faultless performance and recorded the fastest overall time of 1 minute 16.73 seconds beating a 90 car field in the process.
The Suzuki SX4 WRC was perfect all day, with Armstrong and co-driver Barry Ward both thoroughly delighted to receive the trophies for first overall as well as a prize for winning the WRC-1 class. Neil had this to say:
“We had a really good time out today and we were definitely pushing hard from the start. It was a bit of a task when we saw early on that we were about 2 seconds off Bird on such a short stage, but we knew where we could regain some of that time and we worked on it. What this has shown is that we definitely need to start strong for next weekend’s Sol Rally Barbados and build the rhythm from early. Of course we will be car number one on the road and will be doing a bit of road cleaning, but I don’t think that it is a great disadvantage because those in positions two and three will face a similar surface. The real advantage is for those starting lower down. I am really happy with today’s result and it is only possible thanks to a very good team effort.”
