Meet Suzuki’s First All-Electric SUV

The Battery Options: 49kWh vs. 61kWh
The e Vitara possesses two different battery options, with each one preferable for different lifestyles. The ranges for each battery are:
- 49kWh battery: 344 kilometers (213 miles)
- 61kWh battery: 426 kilometers (264 miles)
The 49kWh battery is perfect for daily commutes, school runs, and more general island hopping, while in comparison, the 61kWh battery is better for longer road trips or more active use. Both batteries utilize lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, as well, which allows them to last much longer in warmer climates.
Why “Range Anxiety” is a Myth For Island Drivers
EVs already have plenty of power to last you a long time, but in the context of island driving “range anxiety” is nothing to worry about. Considering a Caribbean island may only be between 30 and 60 kilometers across, you should have plenty of energy in your vehicle to last an entire week or more on a single charge.
Maximizing Your Mileage: Features that Save Battery
The e Vitara also comes with additional tech features to increase the longevity of your battery’s charge. One of these is regenerative braking, which allows you to recharge the battery when slowing or stopping. This is incredibly useful when dealing with stop-and-go traffic, which is particularly common in island towns. There’s also smart climate control systems, which efficiently cool the cabin without being a massive drain on your vehicle’s battery.
Charging at Home: Waking up to a Full “Tank”
When you get an e Vitara, you can also get an at-home charging station. Standard AC charging is simple, as you can just plug in your vehicle to the standard 7kW or 11kW home wallbox charger. The 49kWh battery goes from empty to full between 4.5 to 6.5 hours, while the 61kWh battery takes between 5.5 hours to nine hours. This is similar to plugging in your smartphone at night when it’s low on battery. The e Vitara also supports fast charging if you need it, getting from 10% to 80% charge in around 45 to 60 minutes. Thanks to the growing network of public EV chargers around the Caribbean, it’ll be much harder to find yourself out of power when driving this model.
